Dodgers Win World Series

Or that is the impression that you get listening to the local sports talk radio today. There must have been a lot of confused sports fans who felt it was October already considering the way the Dodgers were carrying on. But when you last world championship came in 1988, it is only natural to take any small victory where you can get it. And true, the Dodgers haven't really had much success against the Padres this season, so it was no surprise to learn that the Dodgers clubhouse attendant was racing out for champagne.

Just kidding. Like you could find a restaurant or bar near Dodger Stadium. The only thing you could hope for is a few empties behind the LAPD shooting range next door.

It was a good win for the Dodgers. Not exactly erasing a five-run deficit in Game 6 of the World Series, but it was nice for them. And it hardly won the NL West for them last night, as one follicle-challenged co-worker championed. (And to be fair, the dude doesn’t really follow sports that closely, so it is understandable how he can get wrapped up in hyperbole.)

No, if you spent any amount of time watching the Dodgers this season, it is pretty clear that this team will not be able to capitalize on this momentum, likely losing the upcoming series at Pittsburgh. It’s coming.

Dodgers starting another losing streak

The Dodgers managed to end their stupid 11-game winning streak tonight by gagging in a variety of exciting ways --
--Jeff "Clubhouse Cancer" Kent popped up with the bases loaded in the eighth inning.
-- The Dodgers appeared to have Matt Holliday caught in a rundown between third base and home on a double-steal attempt, but Russell Martin gagged and couldn't handle a flip from third baseman Wilson Betemit and Holliday scored.
-- Julio Lugo was picked off first base in the first inning and thrown out attempting to steal home in the fourth.
--J.D. "Crybaby" Drew left in the fourth inning because of a mild strain in his left quadriceps suffered when he charged in on a fly ball an inning earlier. Without a trace of irony, the LA Times said "Drew was listed as day to day but said it was too early to determine if the injury was serious."

MEMO TO THE LA TIMES -- SINCE YOU'VE OBVIOUSLY BEEN EDITING THE PAPER FROM A CAVE, LET ME POINT OUT TO YOU THAT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN APPROPRIATE TO MENTION THE NUMBER OF DISABLED LIST VISITS BY J.D. SINCE HIS NAME GOES WITH THE D.L. LIKE "TOMMY LASORDA" WITH "FAT AND OBNOXIOUS."

Dogers Stadium

When Dodgers owner Walter O’Malley was negotiating with the city of Los Angeles in 1957 over the deal that would take the Dodgers out of Brooklyn, he and a county supervisor took a helicopter ride over Los Angeles to look for potential stadium sites. When they flew over the undeveloped 300-acre lot at Chavez Ravine, surrounded by freeways and within sight of the downtown skyline, O’Malley is said to have pointed and asked, "Can I have that one?" The supervisor replied, "No problem."Dodger Stadium was baseball’s only privately financed stadium built since Yankee Stadium (1923) and until Pacific Bell Park (2000). Until Denver’s Coors Field was built in 1995, Dodger Stadium and Chicago’s Wrigley Field were the only National League parks built exclusively for baseball. The Los Angeles / California Angels shared Dodger Stadium from April 17, 1962 until September 22, 1965. The stadium was known as Chavez Ravine when the Angels were playing there.
